Expertise Areas are a framework used within the TU/e to categorize the development of specific skill areas as a designer.
USER & SOCIETY
I focus on design as a form of presence, not problem-solving. My work in U&S centers around emotional interaction, quiet feedback, and symbolic rituals.
In E-GRIEF, I explored grief in relation to obsolete devices, using clay as a non-verbal medium to provoke reflection. In VIVUS, I designed ambient furniture that gently responds to the user, encouraging awareness over action. Both cases exemplify how I treat users as participants in a narrative, not just end-users of a system.
TECHNOLOGY & REALIZATION
I use technology not to create spectacle, but to enable subtlety. I’m drawn to using sensors, air, or light in ways that allow interaction to feel ambient and quiet.
In SKYWAY, I worked with addressable LEDs and a centralized power system to shape a visual narrative. In VIVUS, I explored air as a responsive material through soft robotics. My technical focus is on realizing poetic effects through rigorous back-end systems.
CREATIVITY & AESTHETICS
C&A is at the core of my identity. My design language avoids trends, minimalism, or maximalism — instead, I rely on form, material, and ambiguity to create meaning.
In all my projects, from the ritual-like form of E-GRIEF to the shifting organic body of VIVUS, aesthetics are used to evoke—not explain. This EA allowed me to articulate a consistent visual and emotional tone across diverse projects.
MATH, DATA, & COMPUTING
My interest in this area is less about raw data and more about translating intangible inputs into emotional responses. I aim to turn data into ambient signals something you feel rather than read.
I’m currently exploring TouchDesigner as a way to bridge real-time data and emotional feedback loops. While this EA is my weakest, it’s also my most strategic growth area.
BUSINESS & ENTREPRENEURSHIP
My approach to B&E is grounded in realism. While my design goals are abstract, I’ve taken full responsibility in team contexts for financial management and stakeholder communication.
During SKYWAY, I created the financial plan and secured material partnerships. This experience grounded my otherwise poetic work in professional reality, and taught me how to translate vision into viable output.
